Wood Floor Staining
Wood floor staining in Enfield, from soft natural tones to rich walnut and modern greys — always sampled on your own floor first.
A stain can completely change the character of a room. A darker tone adds warmth and drama, a pale or grey stain makes a space feel brighter and more modern.
Staining is carried out after sanding, as part of our floor sanding service. The stain goes onto clean, bare timber and is then sealed with protective coats.
Why we always sample
The same stain can look very different on pine, oak and other timbers. We apply several test patches to a discreet area so you can see the real colour in your own light. Our guide to choosing a floor stain colour has more tips.
Colours we often use
Raw and natural tones
Warm honey and light oak
Rich walnut and smoked oak
Soft greys and white-wash
Ebony and near-black
Floors that suit staining
Solid boards, parquet and most engineered floors can be stained after sanding. Original pine boards from a floorboards restoration look superb in darker tones. Parquet sanded through our parquet floor sanding service can be stained too, with extra care at block edges.
Getting an even colour
The floor is sanded to a fine, even finish first, so it absorbs stain consistently. The stain is applied and worked into the timber in manageable sections, avoiding overlaps and lap marks. It is then protected with two or three coats of oil or lacquer. Some coloured hardwax oils combine stain and protection in one product.
Staining works best on freshly sanded timber, so it is usually planned at the same time as the main restoration. It typically adds half a day to a day to the project. We will also explain how different shades wear in family homes with children and pets.
Looking after a stained floor
A stained floor is cared for in the same way as any finished floor: sweep or vacuum regularly and clean with a damp mop and a suitable floor soap. Felt pads under chairs and tables protect the finish. When the surface looks tired, a maintenance re-oil brings it back without a full sand.
Your staining and finishing comes with our 3-month service guarantee. Guide costs are on our prices page.

Questions about wood floor staining
Do I need to empty the room?
Empty the room where possible and take down curtains that reach the floor. We can help move heavy furniture if we know in advance. Our preparation checklist has more tips.
Are your oils and lacquers pet-friendly?
Yes. We use low-VOC oils and water-based lacquers that are safe for families and pets once cured. We suggest keeping pets out of the room for the first 24 hours, and trim claws to help the finish last.
Will the stain look like the sample card?
Every timber takes stain differently. Sample cards are only a rough guide, so testing on your own boards is the only reliable way to choose.
Can you change the colour of my floor?
Yes. After sanding we lay out colour samples on your own floor so you can see how each shade looks in your light before we commit. Find out more about our staining service.
How should I clean an oiled floor?
Use a soft brush or vacuum, then a barely damp mop with a wood floor soap. Avoid steam mops and bleach or multi-surface sprays. Read our care guide for a simple routine.
Can I get a price without a visit?
Often, yes. A few clear photos and the room sizes let us give a guide price within a working day. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.

Old parquet back to life
