Decking Restoration
Weathered garden decks brought back to life with cleaning, sanding and protective oil.
A few winters can turn a smart new deck grey, green and slippery. Fortunately, the damage is usually only skin deep, and careful sanding reveals sound, attractive timber below.
We bring the same skills from our floor sanding work outdoors. You get a cleaner, safer and better-protected deck. Our guide to decking restoration after winter explains the timing.
Our process
Deep clean to remove algae, moss and dirt
Repairs to split or rotten boards
Sanding back to fresh, smooth timber
Protective decking oil with UV filters
Timber we work with
From pressure-treated pine to tropical hardwoods, we tailor the process to the timber. Grooved boards need extra cleaning, but they come up just as well. We can also refresh garden furniture and wooden steps while we are there.
Keeping your deck looking good
Annual cleaning and a top-up coat of oil every one to two years keep decking at its best. Like re-oiling an indoor floor, a maintenance coat is much quicker than a full restoration.
When to restore your deck
Grey, silvery boards that have lost their colour
Green algae making the surface slippery
Rough, splintering surfaces
Old stain or oil peeling in patches
Regular care prevents water getting into the timber and causing rot. A typical garden deck takes one to two days. We need a dry spell for the oil to cure, so we plan the work around the forecast. Late spring and early autumn are usually ideal.
Repairs and safety
We inspect the boards and visible frame as we clean. Rotten or split boards are swapped out, and protruding screws replaced so the surface is safe for bare feet. Any problems with the frame are reported to you before we continue.
Because outdoor timber faces the weather, we will explain at the survey what our service guarantee covers for decking. Guide prices for decking are on our prices page.

Questions about decking restoration
What do you need from us on the day?
We need access to a standard power socket and, ideally, parking near the property. Our machines run on domestic power, and we bring everything else with us.
Can grey decking be restored?
In most cases, yes. We clean, sand and treat the boards with a UV-resistant decking oil that brings back the colour and reduces slipperiness. See our decking restoration service.
How long does decking oil last?
Most decks benefit from a fresh coat every year. Decks in strong sun or under trees may need it sooner. Regular oiling stops the wood drying out and greying.
Can you replace rotten decking boards?
Yes — we replace rotten or split boards before sanding. New boards are blended in once the whole deck is oiled.
How are your prices worked out?
Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and we confirm everything with a fixed written quote.
What time of year should decking be done?
Late spring to early autumn is ideal. The timber needs a few dry days so the oil can soak in properly. Our decking guide explains how to prepare.
