Parquet Floor Repairs
Loose, hollow and missing parquet blocks re-laid and matched in Enfield. Original blocks are saved and reused wherever possible.
Parquet floor repairs in Enfield
Parquet is one of the most durable floors there is, yet loose and hollow blocks are a very common problem. Damp, heating, past leaks and settlement all cause blocks to work loose, rattle underfoot or go missing altogether. The good news is that most parquet can be repaired rather than replaced.
How we repair parquet
Lifting loose and hollow blocks, cleaning off old adhesive and re-bonding them with a flexible modern adhesive
Replacing broken or missing blocks with reclaimed parquet of the same species and size
Restoring the original pattern and borders where they have been patched badly
Dealing with uneven or damaged subfloors before re-laying
Matching blocks to your floor
Parquet laid fifty or a hundred years ago has a colour that new timber cannot copy. We hold reclaimed stock and match each replacement block to its neighbours before fixing it. The final step is usually parquet sanding, which levels the floor and blends the repair completely.
Signs your parquet needs attention
If blocks sound hollow, move underfoot or have started to lift, it is worth acting early. Repairing a few blocks now stops the problem spreading across the room. Read our parquet restoration guide for more on what causes blocks to lift.
Why we reuse original parquet
Wherever we can, we lift loose blocks carefully, clean the old bitumen from the back and re-lay them in their original position. This keeps the colour and character of the floor and keeps the cost of new timber to a minimum. If the subfloor is part of the problem, we level or repair it before any blocks go back down.

Questions about parquet floor repairs
How do you sand parquet without damaging it?
Because the blocks run in different directions, we use a multi-direction sanding sequence. Finishing with a planetary or buffing machine removes swirl marks and leaves an even surface ready for oil or lacquer.
How are your prices worked out?
Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and we confirm everything with a fixed written quote.
Can I get a price without a visit?
Often, yes. A few clear photos and the room sizes let us give a guide price within a working day. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.
Can you fix parquet with missing blocks?
Almost always. We re-glue loose blocks, replace missing ones with matched or reclaimed timber, then sand and finish the whole floor so the repairs disappear. Find out more about parquet floor repairs.
Can you repair a water-damaged floor?
Often, yes. Surface stains can usually be sanded out, while cupped or blackened boards are replaced and blended in. The floor must be fully dry first, so we take moisture readings before starting.
What about the black adhesive under old parquet?
Many older parquet floors were laid on bitumen adhesive. It does not stop us restoring the floor, but loose blocks need cleaning back and re-fixing with a compatible adhesive. We check this during the survey and include it in the quote.
