Solid Wood Restoration
Deep scratches, worn patches and tired finishes removed from solid hardwood floors in Enfield.
A solid hardwood floor is a long-term investment that rewards good care. Even floors that look beyond help — grey, deeply scratched or patchy — usually have plenty of life left.
Our Enfield team restores solid oak, maple, beech, walnut, ash and exotic hardwoods using dust-free sanding equipment and finishes suited to each timber. This sits within our wider floor sanding services.
What we can put right
Deep scratches from furniture, pets and grit
Bare, grey patches in busy areas
Old lacquer that has yellowed or flaked
Water marks and dark stains
Cupped or uneven boards
How we restore solid wood
We start with a free survey, then prepare the room and secure anything loose. Badly damaged sections are replaced as part of our engineered and solid floor repairs. Multiple sanding passes level the floor and remove every trace of the old finish.
Finishing touches
Hardwax oils give a natural look and are simple to maintain, while water-based lacquers offer the strongest protection. If you would like a new colour, we can add floor staining first. Our guide on oil or lacquer helps you decide.
Hardwoods we work with
Oak is the most common solid floor we see, but every hardwood behaves differently under the sander. Maple is dense and shows sanding marks easily, so it needs very fine final abrasives. Walnut and cherry darken naturally and look best with a clear finish, while merbau and other exotic timbers contain natural oils that affect how finishes bond. We choose abrasives and products to suit your floor.
We also restore solid floors in offices, schools and community buildings, working around opening hours. Out-of-hours working can be arranged for businesses. With good care, a restored hardwood floor can go many years before its next full sand.
Most rooms are finished in one to two days, with light foot traffic possible after a few hours. Furniture can return after 24–48 hours.
Guarantee and aftercare
Every restoration comes with our 3-month service guarantee, plus written aftercare advice. Oiled floors can be refreshed with a simple re-oil rather than another full sand. Guide costs are on our prices page.

Questions about solid wood restoration
Can you change the colour of my floor?
Yes. After sanding we lay out colour samples on your own floor so you can see how each shade looks in your light before we commit. Find out more about our staining service.
Can engineered floors be sanded?
In most cases, yes — as long as the top wear layer is 3 mm or more. We check the thickness during the free survey, often by lifting a threshold strip or a floor vent. Our engineered floor guide explains more.
How many coats of finish do you apply?
Oiled floors normally get two coats, and lacquered floors three. Busy hallways and commercial floors can have an extra coat for added protection.
How are your prices worked out?
Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and we confirm everything with a fixed written quote.
What is the difference between oil and lacquer?
Oil soaks into the timber for a natural look and is easy to spot-repair. Lacquer forms a tougher surface layer that copes well with spills and busy households. We will help you choose at the survey — or read our guide to oil and lacquer.
Will sanding wear my solid floor out?
Solid timber floors can be sanded again and again. Each sand removes only a fraction of a millimetre when done properly, so a well-kept floor will last generations.

Herringbone hallway looks stunning
“The original herringbone in our hall had years of grime and old varnish. Three days later it is flat, smooth and glowing. Everyone notices it as soon as they walk in.”

Old parquet back to life
“We were ready to rip the parquet out. They replaced the damaged blocks, sanded and lacquered it, and you cannot tell where the repairs are.”
